Where the work is
Three things drive the work: the airport, which sits inside the city and runs from before dawn until late; the tourist core between Baixa, Chiado and Belém; and the office belt along the Avenida, Saldanha and Parque das Nações, which turns into delivery volume at lunchtime. Nights are their own market around Cais do Sodré, Bairro Alto and Santos.
What to know about driving here
The old centre is a maze of one-way lanes shared with trams, and Baixa, Chiado and the Avenida sit inside a low-emission zone, so check that the vehicle you plan to use is allowed in. Bus lanes are enforced by camera. Both river crossings are tolled, and traffic on them is the reason a short trip on the map can take half an hour.
